ADULT ENGLISH EDUCATION PROGRAM
At nOURish BRIDGEPORT, we believe welcoming a new neighbor means more than providing food - We nourish the mind, body, and soul through relevant educational programs that create pathways to self-sufficiency and independence.
Our ADULT ENGLISH EDUCATION PROGRAM helps people build full and fulfilling lives in their new home by providing the tools, skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive.
What We Offer
Our program is designed to meet neighbors wherever they are on life’s path, whether they are beginning their English-language journey or preparing to take the next step toward American citizenship.
We are more than a classroom. We are a thriving and supportive community of learners where people come first.
- English Classes: for every stage of learning English - whether you’re a beginner or a more advanced speaker - all classes embed reading, writing, listening and speaking into each lesson. Students are paired with teaching volunteers in small groups which offers a thriving space to learn new skills and connect with a supportive community.
- Small-Group Learning: Students are paired with teaching volunteers in small groups, creating a welcoming environment where they can develop new skills and connect with a supportive community.
- Financial Literacy: Practical workshops help neighbors manage money, understand banking, and work toward greater financial stability.
- Computer Technology Literacy: Foundational digital skills helps students prepare for employment, educational opportunities, and everyday life in today’s world.
- Pathways to Citizenship: Guided support is available for neighbors pursuing the dream of becoming American citizens.
- Supplemental Learning Opportunities: Supplemental Learning Opportunities - we offer workshops on relevant topics as additional learning opportunities throughout the year. Examples include: Oral Care & Dental Hygiene; Healthy Living; Library Resources & Info to Access; Resume & Work Readiness.
What makes our ADULT ENGLISH EDUCATION program truly special is the community that surrounds it. Approximately 50 dedicated volunteers bring their time, knowledge, and heart to this program every trimester, creating an environment that is warm, welcoming, and deeply human.
For many of our newest neighbors, these classes are more than a place to learn — they are a place to belong.
We are proud to serve immigrants and refugees from across the globe, honoring the diversity and resilience that make Bridgeport and surrounding towns the vibrant communities they are
