INDOOR HYDROPONIC FARM
The nOURish BRIDGEPORT INDOOR HYDROPONIC FARM was created in response to a serious reality: many Bridgeport neighborhoods have been designated as food deserts, leaving thousands of residents with limited access to fresh, nutritious produce.
We listened to our neighbors, recognized the gap, and decided to do something about it.
Our indoor farm grows fresh vegetables throughout the year and distributes them directly to schools, food pantries, soup kitchens, and community organizations serving families across the Bridgeport area.
By growing food directly within the community, we are helping make nutritious produce more available to the people who need it most.
See How the Farm WorksImproving Access to Fresh, Nutritious Food
nOURish BRIDGEPORT purchases the vast majority of groceries we distribute each week from our partners at the Connecticut Food Bank, and we are deeply grateful for that partnership. But when it comes to fresh, nutrient-dense produce, two persistent challenges stand in the way:
- The Food Bank receives very little fresh produce to distribute.
- By the time fresh produce is procured, it is often at the end of its lifecycle.
Year-round in Connecticut, the produce available through traditional food bank channels is largely limited to carrots, onions, and potatoes. Nutrient-rich vegetables like spinach, chard, arugula, kale, lettuce, basil, tomatoes, and cucumbers are rarely available — and rarely affordable for the families who need them most.
So we built our own farm.
Growing With Water, Light, and Nutrients
The nOURish BRIDGEPORT INDOOR HYDROPONIC FARM grows vegetables in Connecticut - using ONLY WATER, LIGHT, AND NUTRIENTS. NO DIRT. NO PESTICIDES. NO SEASONS.
We use five growing systems to increase production, improve efficiency, and expand the range of crops we can grow.
- Freight Container: A fully contained, climate-controlled growing environment
- Fork Farms: Vertical growing systems designed for efficient, high-output vegetable production
- Dutch Bucket Systems: Growing systems well suited for larger fruiting plants such as tomatoes and cucumbers
- Flex Acre: A versatile growing system, expanding our capacity and crop variety
- Nutrient Film Technique or NFT: Ideal for smaller crops such as herbs and mini-tomatoes
Fresh Produce Goes Where It Is Needed Most
Produce grown inside the nOURish BRIDGEPORT INDOOR HYDROPONIC FARM is distributed directly to community organizations serving residents throughout Bridgeport and the surrounding area.
Our distribution partners include:
- Bridgeport Public Schools
- Stratford Public schools
- Norwalk Public Schools
- Local food pantries
- Soup kitchens
- Direct-service organizations
- nOURish BRIDGEPORT food-assistance programs
This direct-distribution model helps ensure that fresh produce reaches families quickly, while it is still nutritious, appealing, and ready to use.
It also reduces dependence on traditional supply channels that may not consistently provide the variety or freshness our neighbors deserve.
